Effects of Excess Cu Atoms on Hydrogen Permeability, Solubility, and Diffusivity in Pd-Cu Alloys with B2-Type Crystal Structures

Pd-Cu alloys are of particular interest for use as hydrogen purification membranes, and identifying the effects stoichiometry on permeability is key to exploring possibility improving this material. In study, we carried out permeation tests Pd-51.5 mol?Cu alloy in order understand excess Cu atoms with B2-type crystal structure. Even though contained a small amount face-centered cubic phase, its was higher than that practical Pd-53 B2 single phase temperature range 298 K 623 K. These results were analyzed according consistent description based chemical potential. It found solubility improved by reducing atoms. On other hand, diffusivity still comparable decreased significantly at low temperatures, just like alloy. First-principles calculations suggested act repellers reduce alloy, manner experimental results. also apparent rarely occupy interstitial sites around However, no significant differences due observed experiment.
